Fantasy United: Who top scored v City?

When Manchester United play Fulham on Friday night, you will be able to go up against fellow Reds in our brand-new fantasy football game for the very first time.

Your selected, a new series of digital collectibles featuring all members of Erik ten Hag’s squad, will be eligible to score you points in  during every competitive men’s fixture this season, starting with our Premier League opener against the Cottagers later this week.

Your five-man line-up, chosen from the cards you have purchased in randomised packs of seven, must be picked 90 minutes before Friday’s 20:00 BST kick-off. And, as the timer ticks down to that 18:30 BST deadline, we’re looking at which players may be vying for a place in your team off the basis of their performances in United’s latest summer outing.

In our final fixture before the start of the league campaign, against Man City, Erik ten Hag’s side put in an encouraging display but had to settle for a 1-1 draw after 90 minutes, before narrowly missing out on the silverware following a sudden-death defeat in the subsequent penalty shootout.

While Fantasy United points were not officially being registered by our players in the match, we have crunched the numbers using our scoring system to let you know who would have been among the premier scorers for your team, in the build-up to the Fulham match…

In his first game since coming back to the club from his international exploits with Portugal over the summer, Bruno Fernandes returned the most points, tallying up seven from a lively performance that included the assist for Alejandro Garnacho’s goal late on.

Garnacho – despite being a second-half substitute – netted six points himself, the same amount as Casemiro following the Brazilian’s influential showing in the middle of the park.

Fernandes’s compatriot Diogo DalotLisandro Martinez and Marcus Rashford were next best in each bagging four points for their efforts at the national stadium. It is worth noting that all points were earned during the 90 minutes, with contributions in the penalty shootout not counted towards the players’ respective tallies.

EXPERT VS LEGEND: WHO WON?

Be sure to keep an eye out across ManUtd.com and the United App this season for regular Fantasy United battles between content creators and former Old Trafford stars, to see who can score the most points in our Expert vs Legend head-to-heads.

For the Community Shield, it was ex-United striker Andy Cole who went up against Ross Dowsett, aka FPL Raptor, who had already recorded a pre-season victory over Bryan Robson. But, as the results below show, Coley was able to get one back for the legends this weekend, triumphing 37-34 in our Wembley showdown.

Notably, the former United striker opted for our top points scorer, Fernandes, as his Ultra-Rare selection, meaning he netted triple the return on every point Bruno got. That may have just proved the difference in a tight encounter, in which Raptor only netted double points from the Portuguese midfielder as his Rare pick. Well played, Coley! Check out the full teams and scores below…

Coley’s team (37): Onana (2), Martinez (4), Mainoo (2), Rashford (8, Rare), Fernandes (21, Ultra-Rare).

Raptor’s team (34): Dalot (4), Mainoo (2), Amad (2), Fernandes (14, Rare), Rashford (12, Ultra-Rare).
