Lewandowski scores first goal of league season

The Polish striker adds his name to the list of players who have opened Barça’s account in La Liga

Polish striker Robert Lewandowski lit up the scoreboard for Barça for the first time in the 2024/25 season when he equalised in first-half injury time for the blaugranes against Valencia at the Mestalla stadium.

Hansi Flick’s team had just fallen behind to a Hugo Duro header when Lewandowski slid in at the far post to turn home Lamine’s cross in the fifth minute of injury time at the end of the first half to make the score 1-1. The Pole was not finished as he rustled up the winner in the second half from the penalty spot, his sixth goal in four appearances against Valencia in a Barça shirt.

Lewandowski has history

It is not the first time that Lewandowski scored the first goal of the season in the league for Barça. Back in 2022 he found the net in the second game of the campaign against Real Sociedad, the first of his two goals in the match.

La Masia

In 2021, Gerard Piqué opened Barça’s account, also against Real Sociedad, with Ansu Fati doing the same a year earlier in a game against Villarreal. In 2019, Antoine Griezmann scored Barça’s first of the season against Betis, before going on to add another. In 2018, a goal by Leo Messi was the first of the season in the league against Alavés and also Barça’s 6,00th in the competition.
