Reiss impressed by the energy levels showcased in City’s win at Everton

Oliver Reiss says his team’s work ethic and energy levels were what impressed him the most after City’s 4-0 triumph over 10-man Everton.

Matty Warhurst opened the account for City before a Divine Mukasa penalty doubled City’s lead before the interval.

City showed continuous perseverance to every loose ball and a high press which frustrated Everton. In turn, Melvin Matos was dismissed after two bookable offences.

Two late goals from Reigan Heskey and Warhurst topped off an strong performance for the Academy youngsters who picked up their first league win of the new campaign.

But it wasn’t City’s form in the final third that caught the eye of the Lead Coach, but the positive atmosphere shown by his squad.

“The energy for sure,” Reiss responded when asked what impressed him the most.

“Our energy against the ball. It seemed like everyone wanted to work against the ball, travel back, tracking. The action after losing the ball was great.

“If we felt the referee decision didn’t quite go our way, it gave us energy. So there was a good feeling to the team today compared to the opening games.

“I liked the atmosphere on the pitch.”

After a draw and a defeat in City’s opening two games to Leeds and Manchester United respectively, our Under-18s now have four points in the Under-18 Premier League North.

But now we will have to wait two weeks until they are back in action when we welcome Nottingham Forest to the City Football Academy for an 11:30 (UK) kick-off on Saturday 14 September.

But Reiss is hopeful his players will return ready to continue the fight for points in the league.

“I’m hopeful and on the one side it’s good to have success before the break so we go into it with a good feeling,” said Reiss.

“On the other hand of course it would be great to have our next match soon.

“But I hope the players have a good time with their respective national teams and all the players who stay here will have good training sessions.

“All in all I hope everyone returns and is in good shape again and we can have the same atmosphere in the team and use it for the next matches.”
