Hammers winger Crysencio Summerville tried to curl a shot inside the far post but Ederson was at full stretch to just touch it on to the post and wide.
The Brazilian is one of five goalkeepers shortlisted for the Premier League Save of the Month with two nominations for stops against City.
West Ham’s Alphonse Areola was shortlisted for his excellent nearpost save to deny Kevin De Bruyne in the same game and Ari Muric was nominated for his save from Erling Haaland in our 4-1 win over Ipswich.
Arsenal’s David Raya has been nominated twice with Brentford’s Mark Flekken also on the shortlist.
Ederson also made a superb stop from close range from Nicolas Jackson in our win at Chelsea, although it hasn’t been nominated.
The scoreline was still 1-0 when he made an excellent reaction save before Mateo Kovacic’s second which has been shortlisted for Goal of the Month, wrapped up the three points.
Voting for the August Premier League Save of the Month closes at 12:00 (UK) on Monday 9 September, with the winner to be announced on Friday 13 September.
Kovacic nominated for Premier League Goal of the Month award
The midfielder wrapped up our victory on the opening weekend of the season with the second in our 2-0 win at Stamford Bridge.
He skipped away from two challenges before hitting a dipping strike that Chelsea keeper Robert Sanchez couldn’t keep out.
Kovacic is one of eight shortlisted for the Guinness Goal of the Month award.
Former Academy players Cole Palmer and Liam Delap also make the list for their goals for Chelsea and Ipswich respectively.
Tottenham’s Yves Bissouma, West Ham Jarrod Bowen, Liverpool’s Luis Diaz, Southampton’s Yukinari Sugawara and Jean-Ricner Bellegarde of Wolves have also been nominated.
Kovacic has made a brilliant start to the season in the centre of midfield, particularly with Rodrigo and Phil Foden returning later Euro 2024.
He has started all four of our games this season, including the Community Shield, and has been nominated for the Etihad Player of the Month award along with Erling Haaland and Rico Lewis.

Guardiola nominated for August Manager of the Month award
One of a quartet of Premier League bosses up for the first managerial prize of the campaign, Guardiola’s stats are the most impressive in all categories.
The Catalan has guided City to the top of the table with three wins out of three, as well as seeing his team score more goals than any other club during an impressive start to the season.
Pep is up against his former assistant Mikel Arteta, who has seen his Arsenal side take seven out of a possible nine points in August.
Liverpool’s Arne Slot is the only other manager in the topflight to have enjoyed a 100% start to 2024/25 – but for August, only two victories are counted as the 3-0 victory over Manchester United last Sunday will count towards the September vote.
Finally, Brighton’s new boss Fabian Hürzeler has also been nominated.
The Seagulls have made a bright start under the young German, beating Everton and Manchester United before holding Arsenal to a 1-1 draw at the Emirates.
