Manchester City and Pep Guardiola is facing a potential headache as he prepares for the FA Community Shield showdown with Manchester United, with two of his full-backs emerging as injury concerns.
Manchester City, having returned from a challenging US tour, ended their stateside jaunt on a high with a 4-2 triumph over Chelsea in Ohio.
Erling Haaland stole the show with a hat-trick, complemented by strong performances from Oscar Bobb and James McAtee.
However, the victory wasn’t without its issues. Just before halftime, Josh Wilson-Esbrand was forced off with a right hamstring injury, making him the first casualty of City’s grueling pre-season.
He was replaced by Tomas Galvez, who showcased his pace and prowess on the left flank.
The injury woes didn’t end there. Rico Lewis was also sidelined in the second half following a clash with Raheem Sterling.
Although Lewis initially soldiered on, he eventually had to be substituted, with Guardiola later confirming the issue was cramp.
Wilson-Esbrand’s condition could potentially jeopardize any plans for a loan move this season following stints with Stade Rennes and Cardiff City last season.
With Manchester City set to face Manchester United in the FA Community Shield at Wembley next weekend, Guardiola will be closely monitoring his defensive options.
Will the Premier League champions overcome these setbacks to claim victory in this season’s curtain-raiser? The stage is set for a thrilling encounter!
