he boy from La Masia is coming home. Dani Olmo has spent ten years outside of Catalonia but now he’s back and ready to debut with his boyhood club. In an exclusive interview with Barça One, he described what all that means to him. Here are some of the standout quotes:
A special homecoming
“It’s a dream to come back to Barça. I had other options, but the way the club approached my transfer, their initiative, I didn’t need to think twice.”
“Barça is my home. I have my friends near me and coming back here is very special”.
“I hope to enjoy historic moments in this shirt, that’s the dream”.
“Returning to Spotify Camp Nou is a motivation. I only got the chance to play there once, but now i’ll be able to play there again. I hope to get lots of joy there”.
Versatile and ambitious
“I’m an attacking central midfielder, but I can adapt to all kinds of positions. I play where I am most wanted”.
“I’m an ambitious person. I always want to win. I never want to lose at anything and that’s what Barça needs, to win”.
La Masia background
“I had some great years at La Masia, maybe the best of my life. I think of Barça as my home, it was here where I grew up and became a footballer”.
“I started as a centre forward with 9 on my back, and as the years went by, I also played on the wing and it was in Croatia that they moved me to midfield … All these variations help you to improve as a player”.
Ten years away
“I left my home, but kept developing in a different world. But growing up at La Masia taught me values as well as football, and I know this place, but also got to learn a lot of important things in Croatia and Germany. But I am still the same footballer”.
“Going to Croatia was a brave move, but I have fond memories. That’s where I completed my training and I was there for five years. But my biggest aim was always to come back to Barça”.
“Playing in the Bundesliga made me a better player. Thanks to that experience I got to play in the Champions League and also got picked for Spain to play in the Nations League and the Euros”.
Familiar faces
“I know some of the players from the national team and now I’ll be with them at a club, and that does make things a bit easier. I’m also looking forward to playing with people like Frenkie, Lewandowski and Araujo”.
“We have a great team and we should bring plenty of joy to the fans.”
“I know Gavi and Fermín from La Masia, but we were very young when I was here. But to now all be sharing the senior team dressing room is amazing”.
“Lamine Yamal is incredibly talented. He’s an exceptional talent and a very endearing person”.
