Five key quotes from Mazraoui’s signing interview

Although fellow new arrival Joshua Zirkzee grabbed the headlines on Friday night, Noussair Mazraoui had an assured debut in our Premier League opener against Fulham.

The Morocco international showed plenty of hunger and desire from right-back, which didn’t go unnoticed by the Reds faithful at Old Trafford, before he made way in the 81st minute for his former Ajax and Bayern Munich team-mate Matthijs de Ligt to be introduced for his first United outing.

Having only arrived in M16 on Tuesday, it’s been quite the week for Mazraoui, who sat down with club media to discuss a whole range of topics.

Mazraoui: The signing interview

COMFORTABLE WITH PRESSURE

I think now, during my career, I’m used to nothing else than to perform, to have pressure on you that you always have to become a champion. I think I’m really used to that because of the clubs I’ve played for now. If the club demands that and the fans demand that of the club, they demand it of you, of course, and you have to perform, it’s no question.

THE KIND OF PLAYER I AM

I think I’m a player who adapts fast, I’m quite good under pressure. When they press high, I can find a way to come out of the press. Attacking-wise, I like to really support the winger – that’s the guy who has to score and give the assists so I try to support him the best I can in both ways, in defending ways and also on the ball.

LINKING UP WITH ERIK AGAIN

He’s a special manager for me because I made, for the first team, my debut so yeah, of course the coach who gives you this opportunity is special for you. I always liked his way of seeing the game and the way he plays. It really, really suits me.

GIVING MY ALL FOR THE FANS

I cannot wait to see them, I can’t wait to give my all for them and, yeah, I cannot wait to start the season with them and to have a great season where they can enjoy seeing their club which they love so much being back up top.

A combative debut

FOSTERING A WINNING CULTURE

You have to do it together and that’s one big thing that everybody is on one line, everybody knows what to do, everybody knows what to expect from each other on the pitch so that you can also keep each other responsible for if something doesn’t work out. At that moment, I think you have to have a kind of relationship that you can say these things to each other and that you accept it from each other. I think from there on you will really grow as a team and you start to win games, you have winning streaks and you’re smashing the opponents and then at one point you’re in the flow and then you have the feeling that nobody can beat you. I hope this season is that season.
